Labeling of the ingredients of cosmetic product is in compliance with the INCI

The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients, abbreviated INCI, is a name system for ingredients of cosmetic products that ensures maximum transparency for consumers. This nomenclature is written on product packaging and it is in unison at the international level.

For the first time, the name INCI was introduced in 1970 because there was a need for a common nomenclature of ingredients that will enable identification of each substance by using a single name internationally. Today, this method of labeling cosmetic ingredients is legally regulated and mandatory in the European Union, the US, China, Japan and many other countries in order to minimize the language barrier, which often interferes with consumers understanding and influences international exchange. The INCI name of each ingredient is determined and approved by an international expert and scientific committee and the latter is then entered into a single database of INCI names.

The INCI base currently has a list of about 16,000 ingredients with all the characteristics of each ingredient. This recognition by the unique ingredient name, besides what has already been mentioned, has a number of other advantages. It allows dermatologists, physicians, toxicologists and other experts to track data on ingredients in cosmetic products that may be important to identify possible side effects easily. At the same time, the cosmetic industry makes it easier to monitor the safety and regulatory status of each component, ensuring that safe, healthy and good products are being placed on the market.
